چکیده

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are emerging as major spatial data handling tools for natural resources inventory and management. For simulation model applications to surface water related problems, a GIS can serve as a powerful, interactive, and graphics oriented data platform and user environment. However, prior to utilizing available data and models, analysis of the problem's information requirements, the data base contents, and the given boundary conditions is necessary to configure models and data in a most effective and economical way. Problem diagnosis and preprocessing steps such as domain discretization, model parameter selection and calibration require problem-, methodand tool-specific expertise. This paper describes a conceptual approach towards the development of an "intelligent" Geographic Information System (IGIS), which incorporates knowledge processing capabilities for the surface water problem domain. Special attention is given to object oriented methodology, interfaces between numeric data and symbolic knowledge representation, and to dealing with uncertainty.

Intelligent GIS Conceptualization

The concept of an intelligent geographic information system (IGIS) is not new. However, the term represents a complex set of ideas and methods that cannot be combined into one method, theory, or concept. This chapter attempts to describe this new domain in geographic information system science and technology. Here, we present selected results of theoretical investigations and technological deve...

Mitigating the Impacts of Combined Sewer Overflow to an Urban River System via Web-based Share-vision Modeling

Storm water overflow from the combined sewer system might result in a sudden devastating impact to the local ecosystem in an urban river environment. In order to assess overflow pollution load during tropical rainfall, a web-based share vision modelling system is organized and designed in this study to investigate the resultant water quality impacts from both spatial and temporal aspects simult...

Knowledge Discovery In GIS Data

Intelligent geographic information system (IGIS) is one of the promising topics in GIS field. It aims at making GIS tools more sensitive for large volumes of data stored inside GIS systems by integrating GIS with other computer sciences such as Expert system (ES) Data Warehouse (DW), Decision Support System (DSS), or Knowledge Discovery Database (KDD). One of the main branches of IGIS is the Ge...
